Learn To Effectively Manage Stressful Situations With Ease
Believe it or not, there is both good stress and bad stress. Untreated stress can result in heart problems, high blood pressure and depression. How you choose to handle stress, will determine how it affects you. Continue reading for some helpful ideas for how to get a better handle on the stress in your life.
Keep stress to a minimum in your life. Elevated stress can result in health problems such as depression, ulcers, insomnia, stroke, muscle aches as well as heart attacks. Be sure to get an ample amount of high quality sleep to reduce your levels of stress and avoid the risk of getting sick.
Deep breathing and thought control can also relieve some tension. When you are stressed, take a minute and envision yourself relaxing in a soothing bath. Try breathing deep and slow with your eyes closed, and imagine your happy place. Is it the beach?
Avoid tensing the muscles in your face, especially along the jawline. There are different parts of the body that may begin to harbor tension when a person is stressed out, and the jaw is one of the most common. If you are having a stressful day, just tap the jaw lightly with your index finger, clench your jaw and breathe in deeply, then breathe out slowly. This is an exercise to help ease stress and discomfort.
Smell certain things to reduce the stress in your life. The scents of essential oils like chamomile, eucalyptus, thyme and peppermint can have a powerful calming effect. In a small vial, place rock salt and a couple drops of the oil of your choice. When you are feeling stressed, open the vial and take a whiff.
Relaxation and exercise are key to gaining control over your stress. Exercise is much more than a quick fix; instead, it is a means of improving your mind and body over time, while managing your stress levels daily. It will not only release stress, it also makes you feel better about yourself.
Try to replace the unhealthy habits in your life with more positive and productive ones. Instead of using food to comfort yourself when stressed, exercise the negative energy out. If you are able to replace unhealthy choices with healthier ones, your body will be stronger and more relaxed.
As a young adult, a great form of stress relief is to play video games. Playing a video game gets you focused on something else and helps clear your mind. Both playing alone and playing with friends, do wonders for a bad mood.
Be wary of any body parts that tense up whenever you feel stressed. Your shoulders, back, teeth or hands will often clench instinctively. Whenever you recognize an area of tension in your body, consciously relax it by stretching. This habit makes it much easier to lower your guard and fully relax.
A short period of stress can result in positive effects including adrenaline, focus and drive. Long-term stress causes high blood pressure, obesity and bouts of depression. Take what you learned from this article and use it to knock the stress out of your life, instead of becoming a victim.
